Module 3 — Self-talk, State of Mind, and Stimulus Responses

The power of positive self-talk is often underestimated. According to research, our self-talk significantly impacts our state of mind and subsequent behavior.

  • There is a general lack of awareness as to how powerful self-talk can be when it comes to changing our state of mind.
  • We are constantly bombarded with stimuli that can trigger a negative or positive response. The key is to be aware of our thoughts and words’ impact on our state of mind.
  • When we are in a positive state of mind, we are more resilient and adaptable to change. We are also more likely to take risks and pursue opportunities. On the other hand, a negative state of mind can lead to anxiety, depression, and even physical illness.

We can change the outcome of our negative and unproductive self-talk by being aware of our words. We will also discuss some techniques that you can use to change your self-talk and ultimately improve your state of mind and optimism.
