Mindfulness and the Magic

Do you know what does it mean to be mindful?  It can be defined in many ways such as being attentive to being deeply present to communication, people and situations around you. Practicing true mindfulness encourages living in the present while it addresses the danger of distorted thinking, staying in tune both mentally and emotionally improves perspective to enhance personal a professional success. You will enjoy learning to identify your own patterns of thinking.

As you learn to practice mindfulness, you will cultivate positive emotions that will have a dramatic effect on people and environment around you.  Mindfulness can be traced to spiritual practices among Buddhist Monks and in last few decades there have been many psychological studies to understand the impact to reduce anxiety and depression.

Jon Kabat-Zinn, one of the first psychologists to study mindfulness as a secular concept, defines mindfulness as “paying attention, in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” According to a later study, mindfulness studies in psychology tend to require two components for mindfulness:

  • A quality of high attentiveness and concentration
  • An attitude of curiosity and openness.

In this course we explore the both spiritual and psychological benefits of practicing mindfulness. Most important point to remember is to understand when to ‘be the present moment’ and when to be engaged in deep thinking, the type of activity you are doing, and level of attention you must pay either less or more such as attention to details or observing a beautiful sun set are very different from each other in terms of attention needed.
